Critters (Crites lol) 3.5/5

Posted: February 28, 2012 in Film Review

So I watched the first Critters movie from my Critters collection box set and I have to say this was a lot of fun. I can’t believe I have never seen these movies, I had always wanted to but back in the day of VCR’s stuff wasnt so easy to come by. Anyway this film is such an 80’s movie, it has cheesy lines, cheesy characters, cheesy music and cheesy haircuts. Basically the “Crites” (Critters) have escaped their prison in outer space and make way for planet earth with one objective: to feed! and that is feed on anything pretty much. they make themselves at home in a farm-house and make the family’s life a misery. They are basically little hairballs with teeth and can shoot needle things from their back that carry some sort of poison. The prison in outer space which they escaped from send two bounty hunters to hunt them down. These guys were great especially when they change their form and just go around blowing everything up in sight. Well I wont say much more other than to recommend it to anyone who likes 80’s B movies, this one really is awesome!

So cant wait to watch the other three 🙂

My DVD update

So I work two jobs these days, my main job funds daily living boring stuff like rent, council tax and food of course. My second job funds a saving scheme and helps fund my hobbies. I buy mainly used and really cheap dvds, they are so cheap these days its unbelievable. I remember when they first came out, they were so expensive like £20 each. Any way every month when I get my 2nd jobs money I treat myself to new stuff, mainly dvd’s and cd’s and this month I got these.

I have seen Cube years ago but wanted to see it again as I can’t remember much about it. Return of the living dead is one of the best zombie movies ever made and for some reason I have never owned this movie. . . until now YAY! Silent night deadly night parts 1 and 2 seem interesting to me, christmas style slashers so I believe. Ghoulies 1 and 2 will be silly b movie madness I’m sure. The Funhouse seems interesting especially as its directed by Tobe Hooper. Pin I am nearly completely in the dark about so that will be fresh. I will update my thoughts once they have been viewed.

Steven Kings Pet Sematary 3/5

Posted: February 22, 2012 in Film Review

Well this was a re watch for me as I have seen this movie before but it was a very long time ago. It’s basically about a family who move to a new area with a very dangerous road outside. Trucks zoom past at extremely fast speeds which has led to lots of pets being run over. The locals have created a Pet Sematary (yes I know its misspelled but if you have seen the movie you will know why.) The local neighbour warns them of the road and also shows them the cemetery. He later shows the main character a place beyond the pet cemetery which is an ancient site where if you bury something there it will come back from the dead. a series of events occurs and the horror begins, I wont go into too much detail as I wouldn’t want to spoil it. Well I did actually enjoy this movie again, there is some great tension in the movie. You just know something bad is hanging in the air in this movie. It does suffer from some plot holes and some really stupid mistakes from the characters that are a bit silly but they can be overlooked, and the film is still very enjoyable. I can’t compare to the book as I havent read it but i would suggest this for a good 80’s watch 🙂

Just try to remember “sometimes dead is better!”

Creepshow 2 2.5/5

Posted: February 16, 2012 in Film Review

Well I watched this movie yesterday and after being a fan of the first movie was expecting to enjoy this one. It was a lot of fun, very cheesy and full of gags at  every turn.

Basically this film features 3 short stories with a wrap around animated segment. Each story was introduced by ” the Creeper” played by the awesome Tom Savini.

Tom Savini is in my mind one of the best special effects guys  in the business. His work on George Romero’s “Day of the Dead” is in my mind the best zombie gore ever filmed. The 3 tales in this movie are called “Old chief woodenhead”, “The Raft” and “The Hitchhiker” I wont give anything away about this movie because there really isn’t anything complicated about it. It’s just 3 short terror tales that are quite simple in nature. I quite like that they are mysterious and never fully explained. I know some people don’t like stuff that just “Is” for no apparent reason but it really works here. Yes this movie is silly but that’s kinda the point and if you don’t get it then you just wont enjoy it. I personally did enjoy the first movie more but this isn’t a bad sequel and does its job as a silly gag and gore infested horror movie.

My First Blog

Posted: February 14, 2012 in Film Review

Well. . . been thinking of getting a blog for a while now but havent had time. I am mostly going to write about things that I like (of which there are many). I Guess it’s as much for my own reasons so I can look back on things I have done with my time and enjoyed. Even if I hated something and just wanna bitch about it, it’s all good! My main subject matter will be my interests which consist mainly of:- Music, Movies, comics, books and Video games. These are the things I love and spend my free time doing. I am currently playing This game

Loving it and will review it when I’m finished. The most recent Movies I watched were “The girl who” trilogy (extended Cuts of course)

Really enjoyed these! they are quite different films for me. I tend to watch mainly horror! But I did enjoy the storyline, and how the films were like a cycle that all resolved and came full circle on itself. I will try not to give too much away but the main plot follows 2 main characters Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist. He is a reporter who runs a magazine called “Millennium” which exposes and talks about corruption and crimes. She is a hacker and also a reporter, shes by far the most interesting character who has quite a past I can tell you. Their lives get intertwined through a series of events and there’s lots of secrets and darkness involved. Great films, ones I have been meaning to see for a while but I held back as the extended cuts weren’t available for a while.

I have just received a new dvd set WOOT!

Yeah so I love old 80’s cheesy B movie horrors! cant wait to sit down and watch these…

Well I think that will do for now, I’ll keep ya posted on anything I watch read or listen to.
