Cube 4.5/5

Posted: March 20, 2012 in Film Review

Me and my fiancee watched this the other day. (It was a rewatch for me but her first time) and I have to say that this is one cool movie! It’s basically about a few strangers who wake up in a small Cube shaped room with no idea of why they are there. There are four doors in the cube which all lead to more cube shaped rooms. It’s not as innocent as it sounds though as some of the rooms are booby trapped. What I find so amazing about this movie is that it had hardly any budget, I mean every scene has the exact same setting! The beauty of this movie is in the script.

The Characters are really well written and they develope well throughout. They soon learn that they may be able to get out if they can be clever enough. No much more to say really as its a really simple movie, but it really is amazing! a must see I would say. I want to see the other 2 movies in the series now. Definitely check this out!

Ok, so this has to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life! There is so much wrong with this movie! Firstly, it felt like they tried to turn it all serious. I mean come on, trying to make a serious film out of Critters is absolutely ridiculous! Part of the appeal of the other 3 is that they AREN’T serious. It even felt like they were trying to re-do scenes from aliens or Star wars. Man this movie sucked, and the critters are like hardly in it. They changed certain characters too without even explaining the reason for their actions. Who ever wrote this script should be fired and banned from ever being allowed to write anything ever again! It was as painful as watching Texas Chainsaw 4 and that is saying something coming from me because I have a burning hatred for that movie. It was also so damn slow-paced which would have been fine if it was interesting. The characters were just boring and dumb as well, I’m not even going to post pictures of this piece of shite and I would only suggest watching it if you need to fall asleep, or like me you want to achieve watching all the critters franchise. AWFUL MOVIE!!!

Ok, rant over . . .

Critters 3 3/5

So, we come to part 3 of this series of 4 crazy B movies. Just like the previous two this was a lot of fun. Pretty much more of the same but a bit different, as this time most of the Critters madness centres around an apartment block. This film stars a very young Leonardo DiCaprio who was actually Ok in this movie. The one thing this movie lacked is characters from the first two. Charlie is in it but only briefly, unlike the previous movies. There’s not really that much to say, because if you like these movies then you probably will watch all four anyway and they are quite similar, so I wont rant too long. I did feel this movie was weaker than the first two, probably because it was missing some of the fun characters from the others. Although it is nice that they tried it with fresh faces, it’s just I can’t help missing characters like Harv, Ug and Lee. Still, all in all a cool movie that is definitely worth watching if you have watched the other two.

Silent night, deadly night 2/5

I watched this crazy Christmas slasher yesterday morning and it was a lot of fun. It’s basically a pretty simple little slasher movie about a guy who witnesses a savage crime at the hands of a criminal dressed as Santa Claus. This leads him forever terrified of jolly old St Nick and he quite often goes nuts whenever he see’s him as he grows up. Now I am deliberately leaving some of the plot out because it is very simple and I wouldn’t want to give it away for anyone reading this who hasn’t seen it. Basically, things take a turn for the worst and the guy starts to be dressed as Santa himself which leads him to start a one manned christmas mass murder. I did enjoy this movie but at the same time some of it made me laugh so much, like whenever the guy is about to kill someone he shouts “NAUGHTY” or “PUNISH.” It was hilarious and so damn random. One thing really puzzled me though, whilst watching it sometimes the quality would “dip” and certain shots look like VHS quality. This really confused me, but I put up with it and then when it had finished I researched it on the web and apparently every uncut version suffers from this. Don’t let it put you off though, it isn’t that bad, its just more confusing than anything. I guess the original print is damaged or something. My DVD is the dutch version I think and it has the first 2 movies on 1 disk. They are fully uncut and I picked them up pretty cheap on eBay. I don’t think the second movie is available in this country, so this is why I purchased this version.

Looking forward to part 2 now. . . . .

Critters 2 3.5/5

I loved this movie loads! I won’t say too much about it, other than in my personal opinion it was better than the first for basically just giving us more awesome stuff. More critters, more gags, more effects and just a lot more craziness.

I really loved that a lot of the characters from the first movie were back again. I loved sheriff Harv, he was great. The bounty hunters are back as well with some new surprises, one in particular made me laugh. So over all a great B movie that in my opinion was better than the first.

An idiot abroad 2

Posted: March 7, 2012 in Film Review

I recently finished the second series of an idiot abroad and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s basically similar to the first series, but the way it’s set up is a little different. This time Karl gets to choose things to experience from a “bucket list” made up of other people’s “things to do before they die” wishes. Obviously, things aren’t as easy as they sometimes appear as Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant seem to enjoy throwing things at Karl that will make him uncomfortable, which leads to lots of bitching and moaning. You have to feel for Karl at times, but at the same time I can’t help finding this bald-headed buffoon’s view of the world extremely entertaining and hilarious.

The other thing about this series that I love, is that although it is very funny, it is also very eye-opening at times and it left me shocked at the way things are done in different cultures and walks of life. Well worth a watch, but make sure you watch series 1 first, as it is referenced back to and if you havent seen it, you will be left a little confused.

I just wonder if they will do another series and if they do, just what they will get him doing next time ?

Censorship sucks :(

So as you may have guessed I love horror movies. Some of which have lots of blood and guts and controversial themes in, and I absolutely hate when the BBFC cuts stuff out of movies. I hate it because it takes away your right to make an adult decision whether you want to watch something or not. Now don’t get me wrong I completely agree with age certification, I think kids shouldnt be watching some things and the parents have a right to know what not to let their kids watch. But cutting a section or scene of a movie for whatever reason just makes me think adults are being treated like kids. I have always tried my very best to see the movies I want to see 100% uncut, this often means importing region 1 (US) dvds as they tend not to cut stuff as much over there. it can be very hard to know what is actually cut in the U.K so I thought I would tell anyone reading this a good source. I use 3 internet sites to check the first one is the actual BBFC website: where you can use their search bar. The second one is: which is really well put together in fact I think it’s better than using the BBFC one. The other one I don’t use quite as much as it can be outdated a bit and that is: the cool thing about this one is it does a visual comparison between the various editions available and you will find that it is often the region 1 editions that are the best. One thing I will say though is it has got better over the years, stuff gets reissued and the previous cuts are often waived. However there are still a LOT of movies remaining cut.

So that’s my rant over with, check out the sites if you are unsure on anything you want to see uncut.
